Beltane Is Coming!
In fact it’s just around the corner and I have started making plans for this years celebration.
Being Celtic, I feel a special bond to this time of the year and in my home town Limerick, Ireland we still celebrate the ancient custom by burning bonfires and drinking merrily. These were also very ritual by nature. Fire symbolizes purification and rebirth.
Beltane celebrates the coming of Summer among other things but rings in a time of plenty although also a time of work in the past in order to prepare for harvest time and the coming winter.
This festival should be celebrated with merry cheer and bright colors. Eggs symbolize rebirth and primary colors the rays of sunshine. Some believe that ritual sex was also combined with the fire. It would seem illogical because conception would habitually occur at harvest time for many reasons.
So deck the halls and terraces with bright ribbons and prepare to burn the fires bright as we ring in this joyous time.
